Interview With a Twist: It’s Teri Time!

Hi this is Tracy here with a digital scrapbook creative team interview for you!  This month we interviewed the fabulous Teri (ta_merkins). You may know Teri as an Appletini at Scrap Orchard but she also creates for Meredith Cardall Designs. And when you have the awesome Cardall with the talented Teri you get beautiful layouts like this one of Teri’s two adorable little boys, Ghabe and Dominick, using Cardall’s Lazy Summer Days.
Teri said, “When Ghabe was first born, Dominick was so in awe of his little brother. This is one of those moments.”

I got a chance to ask Teri some digital scrapbook questions and here are her answers.  When you are done reading don’t forget to check out Teri’s awesome gallery, and leave her some well deserved love.
When did you start digital scrapbooking and why?
I started digital scrapping in 2007, just before the birth of my oldest son. He was going to be my only child and I wanted to scrapbook his baby-hood. I bought all my paper supplies….and did one page. I could not cut and paste my photos. It was so hard. So, I looked at digital scrapbooking and realized that I could cut, move, resize – whatever I wanted. And undo it if I didn’t like it. I haven’t looked back!
How would your describe your style of scrapbooking?
Eclectic. I like to try everything at least once. I try a variety of techniques and subjects. I do try to make it “realistic” and the few fantasy pages I’ve done are ok, but not what I prefer.
In regards to scrapping, what do you excel at and what would you like to improve?
I excel at trying new things. I love to read and do tutorials on different techniques. I need to improve scrapping without a template. I love, love templates and they are my go-to, which means not very many pages are made without them. My design skills lack sometimes.
In your opinion, what element is a kit incomplete without (staple, flower, etc)?
I love “fibers”….strings, ribbons, ric-rac, etc. It is the best for filling in the background.
What tip/trick/advise would you give to a scrapper just starting out?
Look in the galleries to see what you can do, then realize that some of us have been doing it for years. We were all beginners once and we all cringe when looking at our first LOs. You have to go through that stage; so make some pages that make you smile. And keep learning!
What is your favorite layout and why?
This was super hard because I love almost all of my LOs. Even the not technically correct ones I love for their subject, LOL!

But I chose this one because it was in my head forever and came out exactly how I wanted it too. The blend was awesome and the song lyrics were so perfect for that time of my life.
What Cardall kit/product best represents you and why?
I think Lazy Summer Days.
Summer is my favorite time of year. I’m a teacher, so I get the summer off to spend with my kids. I love waking up and getting some time alone, then the boys waking and snuggling with me because they both love to snuggle when they first wake up. Then no schedule for the most part….just doing what we want, when we want.
