Mondays @ Mere’s Easy Card Creations

Are you ever in a pinch for a cute card that says just the right thing? Well I can tell you that you can make two cards, yes two cards in about 5-10 minutes.

I created the two different card fronts with the fun new kit “Bushels of Fun” by Meredith Cardall. I put both of them on a landscape page so I can print from my home printer and cut to make two different cards. I printed on photo paper so the image is bright and crisp.

Then I use 8 1/2 X 11 inch cardstock and fold in half. I cut all pieces to fit nicely with each other.( you can also use your 12 X 12 paper and design your front page to fit that size.) Then I ink the edges to give it some definition. And then place the design on the front of the card with some adhesive.

Then you’re ready with two brand new cards.

Monday’s @ Mere’s – Back to School Fun

Are you kids gathering up all those school supplies and heading back to class? Well if you’d like to make some of their things more personal you can take this fun idea and make a plain old composition notebook and turn it into a fun, envy making school must have.

I used the darling kit by Meredith Cardall “Sunshine on a Cloudy Day” I used papers to create the background for the front and back of the notebook, I then used all the fun elements to create the design on the front. I also created some little tabs with some ribbon pieces. I then printed it all out on photo paper and then gathered up all the supplies I would need to finish the project.

I then cut the papers to fit the notebook. I used a corner rounder on the corners and I inked the edges of the notebook and the paper. I use a solvent ink (like StazOn) it will dry on the shiny surface of the photo paper. Otherwise you might have an inky mess.

Then I use my good friend Mod Podge and put a thin layer on the top of the book and then add the paper. I use a brayer(or small rolling pin) to roll along the top to make sure it stays smooth. Do the front and then the back and WAIT for it to dry, then do the top layer over the front/wait/ then do the back cover too. Oh, that waiting can make you crazy. :)

Then I found some purple grosgrain ribbon, a few paper flowers, And some fun blingy brads for the center of the flowers.

Tie the riboon onto the notebook, and add the flowers with some glue dots.

Then I used the little tabs and stapled them on random pages in the notebook. Now I have a personalized notebook for pennies. As a hint : I buy lots of the composition notebooks at the end of school season. I got mine for 12 cents each. But even at 40 to 50 cents that’s an inexpensive gift if you need one. These notebooks can be customized for any occasion and are very quick to make.

Happy Hybrid Day!

Monday’s @ Mere’s – Altered Art

Hi, it’s Susan here!

Do you love containers?

Do you sometimes buy products because of the cute container its in?

Well I do too and I have a closet full of them to prove it. So if you are looking to personalize a cute container and alter it into something even better, here’s an idea for you.

I’ve created an altered art Pencil Box. I used papers and elements from two of Meredith’s kits called “Road Trip” and “Poppy Field“. The colors worked together nicely.

I saw this box that use to have cards in it and I knew it would be perfect as a pencil box. It has a magnet closure in the front.

I created the name area on top of the digital paper. I printed the designs out along with a few other elements on cardstock. I mod podged it all on. Then added a fun red ribbon, a few paper hearts and a tag that says “I get by with a little help from my friends”  popped an eyelet on the tag and attached with some bright yellow floss.

Now it’s all ready to add your pencils, pens, scissors, rulers, markers and maybe a treat or two.

I actually made this special box for my friend Meredith Cardall for her birthday but you can make a box like this for your kids for school, for your desktop or to keep some chocolate by your bedside. YOU DECIDE.

Monday’s @ Meres Birthday Cake Surprise

Who doesn’t love a little birthday surprise? Well these cute little boxes are fun on the outside and can hold whatever surprise you want on the inside.

I started with the darling kit ” Cirque de Birthday” by Meredith Cardall and Amy Stoffel. It has great bright colors and fun elements to play with.

I printed off some of the papers and possible elements I may use onto cardstock.

Then I gathered all my supplies.

I traced the box pattern on the back of the cardstock and then cut out. I used a stylus and ruler to score the places that need folding. I got the cake box template free from a website that I don’t recall. I’m sure you can google it to find one.

Then I glued the end flap and side flap closed to make the box. Then you can fill with candy, little birthday prizes, money or gift cards. This could be the favor you give kids at a birthday party too.

Then I used some of the cute birthday elements (two of each style) and a circle punch. I then glued them together with a sucker stick between them and tied some ribbon on the stick. I just used my  scissors to poke a small hole in the top to put the cake toppers through.

I then used ribbon, ric rac,  and digital elements to decorate the outside of the boxes.

And there you have it!  A piece of cake with a little surpise.

Monday @ Mere’s Something Different

I’ve decided to mix a few of my favorite things. Digital Scrapbooking products and jewerly making. Lets see what we get.

I found this fun charm that I just needed to try and put on my necklace. I bought a metal frame that had two glass sheets inside. I bought it at Hobby Lobby. the brand name is the “Jewelry Shoppe. I then decided to use the darling kit “Sparkle and Shine” by Meredith to create a little insert for the frame. I chose a green background paper and for one side the darling pink flower and the other side the pink heart flower.

I printed on photo paper and cut it to fit in the glass sheets. Then I put the glass back into the frame and closed the latch.

I added a lobster claw clasp and then added it to my long chain necklace. Wow a charm that only cost me about $2.50 instead of the $28 I’ve spent on others like it.

Another little fun project from Susan.

Enjoy!

Mondays @ Mere’s SUNNY day!

Don’t you just love those sunny days where you can just enjoy life for a bit? Well I’ve made some fun wood letters that put the SUN in sunny and might brighten up my house with it’s happy hues.

I did a fun class at my local scrapbook store with 13 year old daughter the other night. I thought I’d share it with you. The letters were cut out for us already by a cute wood artist named Jose Pribbanow.  We had to choose our own papers and elements to finish them. I used a few of Meredith’s digi papers from her kit “I AM”  and mixed it with some papers I already had. I hardly ever have to buy a thing when making projects since I either have it in my scrapbook room or my digi files on the computer.

The first thing we did was to choose the papers that worked together the best and then trace the letters on our papers. I turned my paper to the backside and put my letter down backwards. The cut out the paper smaller that the pencil line so you can see some of the color of the letter around it. One trick for small areas that need to be traced is to use the very small inside of a ball point pen(it fits in the tight spaces)

We used a fun bright yellow to paint the wood letters.

After cutting it out I used ink or chalk around the edges to add some definition

After it dried we applied Mod Podge on the top of each letter. Then I put the paper on top.

I also use a brayer to roll on top of it to make sure the paper was flat and adhered securely.

Again drying time is needed. Then I used Mod Podge to the areas that I wanted to put glitter on. I sprinkled colored glitter on those areas. I used a mix of yellow and orange on mine and just yellow on my daughters. Again letting it dry completely. I then used a clear acrylic spray to set the glitter so it wouldn’t fall off.

Then I applied the finishing coat of Mod Podge over all the surface of the letters setting the paper and glitter in place.

To embellish them we used a bunch of chipboard shapes from Making Memories. I also used some rinestones for the middle of the sun on mine and and ribbon of course.

Then on my daughters Y umbrella we added some cute white fringe.

And the finished projects!

Mine

My Daughters

As a footnote: If I had more time to prepare I would have printed out a bunch of Meredith’s elements like the flowers, etc. and then Mod Podged them and used as the accents, but becuse I was rushed I used premade ones. So if you have some wood, paint, paper and some little extras laying around your house, use it to make your day a little more sunny.

Happy Hybrid Day!
