Digi In Real Life: January

One of the biggest perks of digital scrapbooking is the lack of tangible mess. I have enough chaos and mess around me with 2 kids and 3 dogs in the house. I don’t have the time or energy to pull out scrapbook supplies, let alone put them back after I finish making a big mess. Now, I’m not saying that I never do crafts or paper projects. Because, I really do love crafts, and paint, and glitter, and paper. I really love paper! But if I can create the same crafty effects digitally, I definitely attempt it first.

I have been creating digital projects to use for various functions around my house. Typically, they are decorative but some are actually more practical. I’ll be sharing them here on my blog every so often. I hope this gives you some ideas or sparks your creativity!

A few weeks before Christmas I got a phone call from my sister. She and my mom had come up with an idea to make a gift for my dad for Christmas. My dad is the most hard-working man I know. He works countless hours at his job and spends his free time doing things for other people. My mom and sister had the brilliant idea to make a collage for my dad’s office using photos of the grandkids. My sister and I talked and she told me that she wanted the photos in the shape of a heart.  I spent several hours creating 9 different templates for the project. I sent them to my sister, she picked the one that worked best for the photos she had. We uploaded the file to Persnickety Prints and 5 days later, we had a beautiful print, ready to frame.  Now, because I had the print shipped directly to my mom’s house, I don’t have a photo of it.  And now that it’s in my dad’s office, the odds of getting a photo of it are pretty slim.

After seeing the digital version of the collage, I decided to create one from our family’s vacation photos from last January. It’s so fun to see these photos on a daily basis. We had such a great time on our trip. It’s amazing to look back and see how much the girls have grown up in a year. DSC_9854web

If you’ve created a digital photo-collage I’d love to see it!

If you want to create a digital collage and don’t know where to start, you’re in luck! I have two digital collage template packs. The templates are 20″ x 20″, but they can be scaled down and used to create a 12″x12″ (or any size) layout or framed collage.
