Hybrid Project – Photo Frame Art

Hi everyone! It’s Angie here, bringing you a hybrid project idea you might like to try out using Meredith’s digital scrapbook kits. I’m currently 35 weeks pregnant with my second child and my sister is a week ahead of me in her second pregnancy, so I’ve had lots of excuses to create hybrid projects for the new nurseries! What’s even better is that we’re having one of each gender, so I get the best of both worlds. ;)

I’m going to show you one project in particular that I made using Things My Mom Taught Me, a really beautiful kit created by Meredith which is filled with positive affirmations and bright, happy colors – perfect to decorate a little girl’s room!

I came up with this:

And I’m going to show you how I made it! All you need to create this project is a wooden photo frame (painted and dried to match your project), printed materials, mounting stickers, some paints, glue and your usual hybrid tools.

I’ll note now that I really wanted the affirmations to pop and stand out when on the wall, so I used the mounting stickers to help achieve this effect. If you want to do this too, when you’re creating your art on the computer, make sure you print out the word strips separately.

Now take apart the photo frame and put any glass aside – you wont be needing it, unless you decide not to mount your word bits. Take your printed art and glue it down to the cork-board backing from the frame. Make sure you leave enough room around the edges for where the photo frame will sit (measuring and marking the amount of space you will need is a really good idea that I forgot to do!).

Just in case any white space was showing around the edges when I put it all together, and also to sort of blend the picture in to the frame, I took a similar coloured paint and gently dabbed the outside of the image with a paintbrush.

Once that was dried, I put the frame back together, minus the glass. If you’re not using mounted stickers, you could still put the glass back on if you prefer.

Now all we have to do is attach the word strips. I put little pieces of mounting sticker on the outside edge of each strip, plus some in the middle to support it. Once the word bits are in place, you’re all done!

If you ever create a hybrid project using Meredith’s products, be sure to post a photo in Meredith’s gallery at Scrap Orchard so we can leave you some love and see your gorgeous creations! :)

Fun with Frames

One of my favorite parts of a digital scrapbook kit is the frames. Jaime here to share with you some tips and tricks for adding depth to your layout and variety to your pages with all those frames in Meredith’s kits!

I love using frames to anchor my page, and in this example I’ve used it to define a border for journaling. This frame doesn’t even come near a photo!

Another idea is to use frames to create a gallery-wall type of page like Gina (scrappydoo82) did in the layout below using pieces from the kit, Under The Big Top. Each frame is positioned to show off the photo in relation to the whole, very similar to when you hang photos in your home.

This layout by Jennifer (jmljensen) uses one frame to draw immediate attention to the photo. She then builds her cluster around the frame, using the outline as a guide to develop the placement of the elements.

I love this layout by a different Jennifer (redutedaisy) where she uses the frames as part of the cluster with bold shadows that let the photos peek through much like a shadow box. I think this technique will be next on my must try list!

Junior Scrapateers: Mom & Me

Howdy! It’s Meredith here with another edition of our Junior Scrapateers blog series.  This blog series focuses on children and the digital scrapbook pages they create.

Today we have a new page from Princess Isa.  We met her earlier last month.  Princess Isa is 10 years old. Today she is sharing a scrapbook page about her and her mom.  I have met Isa’s mom, and I have to say she is one fun lady! She is really sweet and also a really talented scrapper and designer. I have to admit, I am such a sucker for Mom & Me pages.  I just love to see kids scrapping memories about their moms!

Here is what Princess Isa had to say about her page:

This kit gave me an excuse to take a picture with my mom. It was also kind of fun to do.

Isa’s choice of a cluster is really pretty, and I love the word strips that she included! Those are the things that my mom taught me and I love to see that other moms are teaching their kids the same lessons!

Isa used Things My Mom Taught Me for her layout.

Junior Scrapateers: Umbrellas

Hello again! It’s Meredith here with another edition of Junior Scrapateers, our blog series that celebrates children who happen to digital scrapbook.

Today, we get to meet a fun girl named Ashlyn.  Ashlyn is nine years old and uses Photoshop CS3 to create her digital scrapbook pages.  Ashlyn’s mom is a talented template designer, Scrapping With Liz.  Apparently, the apple didn’t fall too far from the tree! Ashlyn created a beautiful page to share with us today.

Wow! I love this layout! The colors in the kit are a perfect complement to the bright colors and playful feeling of her photos.  Ashlyn is a girl after my own heart- I love umbrellas!  I don’t necessarily love to use them, I just think they are pretty! And Ashlyn has a couple of really cute ones.  Ashlyn used one of her mom’s fabulous templates to create this layout. I really like how she clipped the solid papers onto the template banner shapes.  What a perfect solution when you don’t have banners in a kit already!  The playful font she chose is a really nice finishing touch as well.  Keep up the good work, Ashlyn! We can’t wait to see what you create next!
